Work Background:
For nine years until last year I worked as a Nursing Ward-Aide at the Rockingham County Nursing Home (RCNH). This, for my part, was more of a dedication than an employment. I loved what I did, having been introduced to the facility through my Hospice volunteer work. Prior to RCNH I was the start-up manager for the NFL Twin Ice Rinks in Exeter. In 1995 I purchased Coastal Dry Cleaners and Pine Island Cleaners in an attempt to find gainful employment for the disabled. It was a partial success in regard to my mission but a failure with regard to being a moneymaker. Great personal lessons were learned however. I became a member of AmeriCorps in 2000 working with young children in the NH Reads Literacy Program. This was an incredible experience that once again highlighted the need of the working class and the struggle they experience supporting young families. My five year experience with the corporate world was gained as the Director of Training & Development Office 2000 at the Wang Laboratories, Inc. in Lowell, MA. During this period, teams that I had trained identified system process changes that accrued savings of $500,000.00 within a 6 month period. It was a challenging but rewarding time to be there due to their Chapter 11 reorganization. Prior to 1991, I was a Vice President & Senior Analyst with Shenandoah International Systems and subsequently opened my own consulting company, Atlantic Pacific Clearance Corporation. In the beginning I worked as a consultant to the University of New Hampshire on underwater systems some of which were autonomous. I also had the privilege of being the team leader and advisor responsible for the safety and well being of University of New Hampshire students participating in the International Submarine Races 1989/91/93. During this period my career expanded to being an independent consultant to governments and universities world wide regarding marine survey and the location and destruction of underwater ordnance. During this period I was responsible for the explosive ordnance clearance certification issued by Lloyd’s for the Shatt al Arab waterway on completion of the Iran/Iraq 8-year war. Managed and coordinated the efforts of many sub-contractors to develop the Lockheed Deep Side Scan Sonar system, bringing it in ahead of schedule and under budget. Led an international team to install the worlds deepest (at that time) composite triple moored navigation buoy system for oil survey in Sumatra, Indonesia.
I came to the USA in August of 1980 serving as a British Royal Navy Mine Warfare Clearance Diving Officer where I spent the last three years of a 25-year service commitment. I came up through the ranks and received my commission as an officer in 1972. I had an adventurous career and thoroughly loved the navy enjoying what the Americans call being a “Navy Seal”. I participated in the Suez Canal clearance, Cyprus evacuation and was Commanding Officer of the international UNESCO effort to recover the submerged Philae Monuments in Aswan, Egypt. As the Commanding Officer of the Portsmouth & Medway Explosive Ordinance Diving Team I had the privilege to lead the operation that destroyed the stricken oil Tanker Eleni V resulting in a nomination from the British Press for “Man of the Year” award and I also received a Commander in Chief’s commendation.
